Privacy First

Remixel keeps the core creative workflow on your Mac

Remixel is a local-first macOS generative visuals app for assistant-guided creation and editing, audio-reactive scenes, photo inputs, local media folders, and a native macOS graphics pipeline. This policy explains what permissions the app may request, what it does not track, and when OpenAI is involved for core remixing requests.

Core Principles

How Remixel approaches privacy

The app is designed around local rendering first. External processing is limited to the OpenAI requests you trigger from remixing and scene-combination workflows.

Local-first by default
Remixel is built as a local-first macOS generative visuals app. Its control window, separate canvas window, settings, renderer selection, and media-reactive workflows are designed to run on your Mac.
Permissions only for chosen features
Microphone, photo library, folder access, and screen capture are only relevant when you choose audio-reactive, import, save, or app-audio workflows.
No tracking
Remixel's privacy manifest declares no tracking, no tracking domains, and no collected data types.
OpenAI-backed creation flow
Remixel's core remixing and scene-combination workflows rely on OpenAI account sign-in and an active OpenAI subscription. Prompts are sent to OpenAI only when you trigger those workflows.

Permissions

What access Remixel may request

Permissions are tied to the exact feature you turn on. If you do not use a given feature, the related permission is not needed.

Microphone
Microphone
Remixel uses microphone input for audio-reactive visuals.
Photos
Photos
Remixel uses your photo library only when you choose photos for visuals or save captures there.
Folder access
Folder access
Remixel uses folder access only when you choose local media or My Visuals content.
Screen and System Audio Recording
Screen and System Audio Recording
If you enable app or system audio capture, macOS may require Screen and System Audio Recording permission before Remixel can browse or capture app audio.
No tracking
No tracking
Remixel does not position itself as an analytics or advertising product.
Remixel does not use tracking domains.
Remixel does not declare tracking in its privacy manifest.
Remixel does not declare collected data types in its privacy manifest.
OpenAI-backed creation
OpenAI-backed creation
An active OpenAI subscription is required for Remixel's core remixing workflow.

Remixel uses OpenAI account sign-in for remixing and scene-combination requests via a local daemon. Those flows require an active OpenAI subscription, even though the visual canvas continues rendering locally on your Mac.

Prompts and any related account handoff are processed by OpenAI only for the workflows you trigger. OpenAI's own terms and privacy practices apply to that processing.
